Former Jigawa State Governor Suleiman Lamido has publicly criticised Alhaji Isa Pantami over his past remarks referring to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as an “infidel party.”

Lamido expressed disappointment over the comment, describing it as divisive and unbecoming of a public figure. He noted that such language is harmful to the country’s democratic process and does nothing to promote unity among Nigerians.

Pantami, a former Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, had made the controversial remark years ago when he was still outside government. The comment has resurfaced in recent political discussions as the country gears up for the 2027 elections.

The criticism from Lamido is part of a broader wave of political realignments and shifting alliances ahead of the next electoral cycle. Notably, former Inspector General of Police Suleiman Abba has also switched allegiance from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the PDP, signalling possible changes in the political landscape.

As the 2027 elections draw closer, political leaders across party lines have continued to exchange criticisms, with many calling for more issue-based campaigns and a focus on governance rather than personal attacks.
