Oyinkansola Badejo-Okusanya has been elected as the new president of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA). She is now the second woman to hold the position in the association’s 66-year history.

The election was conducted through electronic voting. Badejo-Okusanya secured 12,317 votes, representing 47.18% of the total 26,106 ballots cast. She defeated two other candidates: Lateef Omoyemi Akangbe, who received 7,934 votes (30.39%), and Olumuyiwa Akinboro, who got 5,855 votes (22.43%).

Despite the outcome, the election drew criticism over low voter turnout and allegations of a lack of transparency. There was also a significant delay in the voting process due to a reported cyberattack.

The new officers will be inaugurated during the NBA’s Annual General Conference, scheduled to take place from August 21 to 28 in Port Harcourt. Badejo-Okusanya will succeed outgoing president Afam Osigwe.
