Youth Leader Shot Day After Condemning Plateau Attacks

A youth leader in Plateau State was ambushed and shot by suspected Fulani militias on July 22, 2026 — just one day after speaking out against attacks on his community.

Pam Fom, President of the Dorowa Babuje Youth Council, had given an interview condemning an assault that killed two youths in his community. He described how attackers hid among cattle before targeting victims on motorcycles and later attacking miners. He urged the government to step up security, warning that young people in the community might be forced to defend themselves if protection remained inadequate.

The next day, Fom was ambushed and shot. Fellow youth leader Titus Badung confirmed the attack.

The incident highlights the continuing violence and insecurity plaguing communities in Plateau State.
