In a move described as a significant efficiency boost, the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has reduced the number of checkpoints along the Atan–Idiroko road in Ogun State from 16 to just three. The announcement was made during a media briefing held at the Ogun I Customs Command.

Deputy Controller Oladapo Afeni, the acting Controller of Ogun I Customs Command, confirmed the reduction and outlined the rationale behind the decision. While the full details were not disclosed in the briefing, Afeni indicated that the new arrangement aims to streamline operations, minimize delays for travellers and traders, and enhance oversight and accountability at remaining checkpoints.

The decision comes amid ongoing efforts by the Customs to optimise enforcement efficiency, curb illicit activities, and improve the ease of doing business along major trade routes. Local stakeholders and road users are likely to welcome the change, which is expected to reduce travel time and congestion on the highway.
