Nigeria Customs Collects ₦4.03 Trillion in First Half, Chases ₦11.07 Trillion Target for 2026
The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has reported revenue of about ₦4.03 trillion for the first half of 2026, leaving it with a large gap to close against its full-year target of ₦11.07 trillion.
Comptroller-General Adewale Adeniyi disclosed the figures during a lecture at the University of Ibadan. He said the service would work toward the target through better compliance, data-driven operations and smoother trade facilitation, rather than through harassment or measures that discourage trade.
The latest figure continues a steady rise in Customs revenue. Collections grew from about ₦3.2 trillion in 2023 to ₦6.105 trillion in 2024 and ₦7.28 trillion in 2025, when the service beat its target of ₦6.58 trillion. Revenue rose by roughly 19 per cent last year, while contributions from companies in the Authorised Economic Operator programme climbed by about 30 per cent.
Adeniyi acknowledged that exchange-rate adjustments had lifted the naira value of import duties. He credited the broader gains, however, to better valuation, stronger risk management, digital systems, firmer enforcement and reduced leakages.
He also noted that tensions in the Middle East and their effect on cargo movement could make the 2026 target harder to reach.
